Have you ever tried to know how old is varanasi?

No,

So we are on the same page, I never tried to know about the history of the place where I always wanted to visit and yes even I don’t know that banaras and varanasi are the same place.

Varanasi which is known as banaras or benaras and in ancient time also as kashi is situated on the bank of ganga river in northan india.

It is 692km from New Delhi.

And yes the answer of my question mention in the title how old is varanasi ?

Varanasi is 5000 years old that’s really amazing and also the birthplace of oldest religious — Hinduism.

English author and literature Mark Twain once wrote that “ benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together. Varansi is one of the oldest living cities in the world.

The language which is mostly spoken in varanasi is bhojpuri ans sanskrit is oldest language here.

There are several pilgrimage spot on the land of varanasi for Hindus. It is believed that if anyone dies on the land of varanasi they attain salvation and get the freedom form the cycle of birth and rebirth.

There are total 200 temple including kashi vishwanath temple which is the main tourist attraction point in the list of temples. Kashi vishwanath temple is dedicated to lord shiva and located in the vishwanath gali of Varanasi. There are also golden temple, sankatmochan temple and many more.

Wait wait wait,

If we are talking about Varanasi how can we forgot Ghats.

Ghats are always the main attraction of tourist in varanasi or we can say nowadays varanasi is mostly famous for ghats like- dashashwamedh ghat, assi ghat and lots more.

There are total 88 Ghats in varanasi in which most of them for puja and bathing ceremony Ghats while two ghats manikarnika and harishchandra are used exclusively for cremation sites.

At every evening On the dashashwamedh ghat you can be the part of ganga aarti and experience the positivity and divinity in and around you. You cannot only experience the ganga aarti on standing the land of dashashwamedh ghat but also you can sit in a boat and watch the aarti also.

You can find the hidden jems of varanasi by roaming around the bazzars. It is famous for silk production wooden toys, glass work and yes silver jewelry which I love to buy and wear.

The best time to visit the city is winter(November to February) because it is not too cold and you can explore the city without getting tired. And one important point to be remembered while visiting the city is that sale and consumption of liquor and non vegetarian food is banned within 250m radius of all temple and heritage sites.

From its ghats to temple and narrow lanes to evening incredible ganga aarti crowed a Varanasi trip can be a rollercoaster ride and lifetime experience also.

So, when you planning to visit?
