Birth of khatu shyam

The grand temple of Khatu Shyam Ji is situated at a place called Khatu in the Sikar district of Rajasthan.

But before we discuss more the temple first know the story of the birth of khatu shyam Ji.

Khatu Shyam ji was earlier known as Babarik.The son of Morvi and Ghatotkachha, Barbarik was very mighty and charitable. Barbarik had received three such arrows from the boon of the gods, which would ensure his victory in any war.

Barbarik mother morvi told and sent him to the war of Mahabharata saying that you should support whichever side is being harmed.

Taking the blessings of his mother, Barbarik proceeded towards the battlefield. Along with he also kept three arrows . When Shri Krishna came to know about this, he came in front of Barbarika disguised as a Brahmin and asked him where he was going. Barbarik told that he was going to Kurukshetra to join the war. God asked how he would fight the whole war with just three arrows. Barbarik told that these are not ordinary three. He can cut the heads of all enemies with one arrow. The Lord asked him to pierce all the leaves of the tree. Barbarik raised the bow and with just one arrow pierced all the leaves of the tree.

When the Lord hid a leaf under his feet, the arrow started hovering near his feet. God understood that if this brave boy reaches the battlefield, he will change the direction of the war. Because Barbarik had come with the idea of ​​fighting from the weak side and God knew that Kauravas were going to be weak in the war. In such a situation, it was very important to stop Barbarik from joining the war.

So Shri Krishna said that give alms to the brahmin and Barbarik said what do you want in alms, on this Krishna asked him for his head.

Barbarik understood that this brahmin was none other than the incarnation of Lord Vishnu himself. He took off his head and offered it at the feet of the Lord And that’s why he is also known as Sheesh Ke Daani.

At the same time, Barbarik expressed that he wanted to see the war and Krishna ji place the head on a high hill. Shri Krishna gave him his name as Shyam and said that you will now be known as Shyam.

The Pandavas were victorious in the battle that lasted for 18 days, as well as they were proud of their victory, then Krishna took them all to the place where the head of Barbarika was installed.
In front of Barbarik, the Pandavas started praising their valor. Then the head of Barbarik said that it is pointless to boast of all of you. Victory has been achieved only by the blessings of Shri Krishna.
I had seen only the Sudarshan Chakra of Shri Krishna running in this war, after which Barbarika became silent and flowers started raining from the sky.

His head was buried in Khatu Nagar (present-day Rajasthan state, Sikar district), hence he is called Khatu Shyam Baba. A cow coming to that place was pouring a stream of milk from its breasts every day. Later, after excavation, the head was revealed, which was handed over to a Brahmin for a few days.

Once the king of Khatu Nagar was inspired to build a temple in a dream and to beautify it in the Sheesh Mandir. Later a temple was built at that place and the Ekadashi of Kartik month was decorated in the Sheesh Mandir, which is celebrated as the birthday of Baba Shyam.

The famous Khatu Shyam ji’s temple was built by Raja Roop Singh Chauhan, the ruler of Khatu village, and his wife Narmada Kanwar in the year 1027.
